Rounding up the weekend's league action

Aylesbury 17-33 London Irish Wild Geese

London Irish continued their perfect start to the season with an excellent second half performance to dispatch Aylesbury, who find themselves at the wrong end of the Regional 2 Thames table.

Holding a four point lead at 14-10 going into the break, Wild Geese motored away in the second half to take all five points in Buckinghamshire, remaining the only undefeated team in the division – indeed, the only one to have won all their fixture so far and take maximum bonus points.

Irish have a three point lead at the top of the table while Aylesbury are second from bottom (11th) with six points.

Beaconsfield 30-20 Grasshoppers

Beaconsfield continue their good form after a shaky start to the season, as the equally impressive Grasshoppers came away with nothing from their trip to Buckinghamshire.

Establishing an early 10-0 lead through tries from Reiss Davison and Alec Stone, they soon saw the advantage disappear as Beaconsfield quickly hit back with two converted efforts to make it 14-10 after 25 minutes. The home side slotted two penalties before half time to make it 20-10, Conor Gilmore then converting an effort of his own to reduce arrears to one score at the turnaround.

Another Beaconsfield penalty 55 minutes put them in some sort of control, though nerves may have been jangling following a converted James Kent try not long after the hour mark ; however, any hopes of a Grasshoppers away win were vanquished by a third and decisive Beaconsfield try with ten minutes to play, though they were unable to take all five points out of the fixture – 30-20 the full time score.

It sees Beaconsfield occupy the mid-table spot in 6th, having garnered 15 points so far ; Grasshoppers are in 4th on 17 points, taking more bonus points in the same period.

Belsize Park 24-36 London Scottish Lions

A remarkable 29 points for Tye James gave London Scottish Lions an away day in Central London to remember as they continue to prove their potential promotion credentials.

A somewhat topsy-turvy tie saw Belsize Park lead 14-11 at the break, Lions then cutting loose a little to go 29-14 up, to then see Belsize claw the gap back to five points with enough time on the clock available to look at a comeback win. It was not to be, as James converted from his own hat-trick try minutes from time to give Lions a 36-24 win in Regent's Park, their only other points coming from a penalty try.

It pushes Lions up to 3rd place with 20 points, Belsize Park moving down to 5th with 16.

H.A.C 24-8 Marlow

A resolute and improving Marlow were unable to defeat H.A.C, whose resolute defensive efforts saw them limit their opponents to just one try.
A frantic opening quarter yielded 18 points, Marlow taking the lead through a first minute penalty before H.A.C hit back with two quick tries, both unconverted. Marlow crossed over with 15 minutes gone to pull the gap back to two points.

Quick thinking from a tap and go with around half an hour gone put H.A.C further ahead at 17-8, adding a fourth ten minutes from time to make sure of a bonus point, not allowing Marlow through and showing why they have the most miserly defence in the division.

H.A.C are 2nd with 22 points – three points behind London Irish Wild Geese – while Marlow are in 8th with 10 points.

Old Haberdashers' 17-19 Hemel Hempstead

A relatively low scoring affair in the Hertfordshire derby saw Hemel take the bragging rights, though both sides remain towards the wrong end of the Regional 2 Thames table.

A losing bonus point from Habs isn't enough to see them move off the bottom, with just 2 points from the opening five rounds. Hemel's first win sees them move clear up to 9th with 8 points.

OPRFC 37-24 Teddington

Old Priorians bounced back from the disappointment of two straight defeats to win at home against newly promoted Teddington, Luis Gomez-Rose scoring a brace on his return to the side as maximum points were taken at Perivale.

James Paxman scored in the opening minute for OPs before Teddington hit back, but the Twisters asserted a modicum of dominance to lead 18-10 at half time through a converted Mishka Fibbens try and two penalties from Will Taylor.

Gomez-Rose – on as a replacement – bagged a brace early on in the second half, a Teddington try sandwiched between the efforts. Teddington then pulled it back to 30-24 in the 51st minute, but a Tomek Tsang interception fifteen minutes from time put Priorians minds at rest for a 37-24 win.

OPRFC retain 7th place, Teddington's sole win coming on the opening weekend, currently in 10th with 6 points.
