A strong second half showing from London Scottish Lions saw them pull away from Old Priorians to secure a bonus point win at Perivale, the Twisters losing to the top two teams in the league in consecutive fixtures as they fell to a 31-6 defeat on Saturday.
OPs started well and went ahead through an early Michael Jobling penalty ; some excellent defence limited Scottish in the opening stages of the game, but were eventually able to drive over just after the twenty minute mark, Cormac McCracken the scorer, with the lead extended ten minutes later via Chris Rolfe.
Jobling put three more points on the board late on and hit the post with an effort on the half time whistle, meaning that the Twisters headed into the break 14-6 down, within touching distance of their opponents.
As rain, hail and thunder besieged West London, conditions became increasingly tricky in the second half but it was Scottish who were able to better weather the storm. Rolfe crossed for his second not long after the restart, hitting some pace to go over in the corner, Nick Hill converting well for 21-6 to the Lions.
Priorians made a number of ventures into Scottish territory in the second half but were unable to make anything count, the resolute, strong and stolid defence proving to be watertight across the course of the afternoon. Despite the pressure, the league leaders grabbed two late tries (Finlay Hillicks and Ollie Boyes) to put extra sheen on the victory and consign OPRFC to defeat.
Not necessarily the most entertaining of spectacles, this was not a poor performance from the Twisters either, and as much as anything was a showcase for the investments London Scottish have made into both their playing and coaching staff within the last twelve months, now needing just one point to see them crowned as Regional 2 Thames champions.
OPs move down to sixth following the result, with their final fixture on the 5th April away to Marlow.
