Osuntoki & Gomez-Rose go continental

Two erstwhile members of OPRFC - Funbi Osuntoki and Carlos Gomez-Rose - have headed to pastures new in Europe, with the two players joining Premier Division sides in Portugal and Spain respectively.

Funbi joined the club in the 2021/22 season, having made 29 appearances and scoring 10 points from two tries in his time at OPRFC. He has joined Belenenses - the reigning Portugeuse champions - who play in the capital, Lisbon, in the Divisão de Honra, the club producing a number of internationals, some of whom competed at the most recent World Cup in France. Osuntoki was included in the matchday squad for the 27-24 defeat to CDS Cascais.

Carlos began his Spanish oydssey a little earlier in the summer as he took up a place at Club de Rugby Les Abelles (roughly translating to Bees Rugby Club in Valencian dialect), the side currently in the top Spanish league, the División de Honor. He was recently awarded a player of the match award in a fixture against Rugby Club Valencia in a local derby in the M23 League. Gomez-Rose made exactly 50 appearances for OPs in his time at the club, scoring an impressive 27 tries and picking up the Player of the Season award in 2022/23.

We wish both Funbi and Carlos the best of luck as they progress their rugby careers.
