We are three weeks into the Regional 2 Thames season and it is already shaping up to be the most competitive yet since its formation in 2022 ; let's see what happened in the most recent round of fixtures.
Aylesbury 47-19 Hemel Hempstead
33 second half points from Aylesbury saw them cruise to victory against Hemel Hempstead, who are yet to win in the 2023/24 campaign.
The first points came in the 25th minute with an Aylesbury try before Camelot scored twice to put themselves 12-7 up, though the hosts went in with a half time lead having scored at the end of the first 40 minutes.
It was then that Aylesbury laid waste to their Hertfordshire opponents, William Andrews completing his hat trick fairly early into the second half, Alex Shearer also adding twelve points from the boot as his side ran in a total of seven tries. Hemel managed a consolation try but it wasn't enough to garner a bonus point.
This was Aylesbury's first win of the season and puts them in 9th place on 6 points, while Hemel Hempstead remain on 2 points from 3 games in 11th.
Beaconsfield 51-12 Marlow
Beaconsfield were another side to register their first win, thrashing Marlow in another Buckinghamshire derby.
Relatively close at half time - Beaconsfield leading 22-12 - five tries and 29 unanswered points in the second half was enough to tip the hosts into a positive points difference for the season and see Marlow lose their second match in the league.
The winners are currently in 7th, taking 6 points from their opening three games, Marlow in 10th, just one point behind.
Belsize Park 27-20 H.A.C
Belsize Park took the spoils in the first battle between two of the promotion favourites, bouncing back from defeat to London Irish last week and ruining H.A.C's 100% record.
Billed as the City of London Derby - with both sides having centrally located official home grounds - H.A.C did enough to take two losing bonus points, keeping them above Belsize in the table, 3rd and 5th as they currently are on 12 and 11 points.
Old Haberdashers' 7-25 London Scottish Lions
London Scottish Lions continue to impress in Regional 2 Thames with a third straight win, consigning Old Habs to another defeat that sees them languishing at the bottom of the table.
Habs actually took the lead with around 25 minutes played through a try out wide, before two tries before half time from Lachie Lowick and Chris Rolfe gave the Chiswick based side a three point lead at the break.
Chris McIlroy scored on debut with fifteen minutes of the second half gone to put Scottish further ahead, joined on the scoresheet by Aaron Perrin as a bonus point was secured. Gavin Kinder added extras to put a sheen on the scoreline.
It means that the Lions are the table toppers, having taken maximum points from the opening three rounds, though face a very stern test on Saturday against H.A.C.
Old Haberdashers' 7-25 London Scottish Lions
Old Priorians 12-30 Grasshoppers
A lacklustre performance from OPRFC saw Grasshoppers ease to a victory in the Friday night fixture, the Twisters losing their first game of the campaign and Grasshoppers continuing to impress with entertaining, running rugby.
Having built up an 18-0 lead at half time, Grasshoppers let OPs back into the game with two early second half tries via Inder Sohi and Elvin Grant, but were strong enough to score twice late on and secure a well deserved win at Wasps FC.
There isn't much to separate the two in the table, being as it is that Grasshoppers have 12 points in 4th, Old Priorians 10 points in 6th.
Teddington 17-36 London Irish Wild Geese
A Celtic connection at the top of the table with London Irish joining Scottish as the only unbeaten team in the league, defeating Teddington away for another bonus point win.
Teddington took the lead after 11 minutes through a try from centre Harry Smith but then saw themselves 19-7 down as half time loomed, a Josh Penberthy penalty allowing them to keep in touch at 19-10 just before the whistle blew.
Indeed, they drew first blood in the second set of forty minutes, George Bradford crossing and Penberthy convering to make it 19-17 after 50 minutes, before fading away in the last fifteen, Irish scoring three tries to give the full time score a convincing look to it.
Irish are in second by virtue of points difference, Teddington in 8th.
